Isn’t It Disgusting, Mr. President?

abuabdullah_wideweb__470×3090.jpgNot but a day after the National Intelligence Estimate alerted us to their startling observation conditions in Iraq were “perilous,” a Baghdad blast in Sadriyah has injured scores and killed more than a hundred.

Some would find it convenient to remark how unfortunate such an attack should come just days before the next “government crackdown” on violence in the region. I do not pretend to be so blissfully ignorant. The uncanny-to-some timing of this latest tragedy strikes me as neither uncanny nor fortuitous. Rather I submit to state the following: the attack was a direct result of the President’s strategies in Iraq.

Before you hit Back on your browser, pause to consider these words from the White House, issued in response to the Sadriyah tragedy:

“Free nations of the world must not stand by while terrorists commit mass murder in an attempt to derail democratic progress in Iraq and throughout the greater Middle East.”

Sounds like an earful to me. And while I don’t find it the least bit productive to sit and deconstruct the string of baffling mistakes made by this administration and especially in consideration of Iraq, I am beyond disbelief as to how our government can at once adopt the duty to transplant democracy through regime change and then point fingers everywhere but south when it all goes awry.

Speculation persists that some 50% of perceived insurgency is coming from Syria’s porous borders. Why then is our government refusing to enter into any kind of dialogue with that nation? And what for Iraq’s neighbor to the East? Iran may be next on America’s hit list, but is it outrageous to assume a predominantly Shiite nation–with some of the most highly regarded Shiite religious figures in the world–might have some iota of influence on the Shiite insurgency groups in Iraq?

Wake up Mr. President. It’s time to put away the cowboy whip and understand the price of brash action won’t be a thorn in this great nation’s history, it will be the blood of hundreds of thousands of lives.
